Thursday, March 24, 2011 Women's History Month Book and Author talk with local author Mary Walton. Walton's newest book, " A Women's Crusade: Alice Paul and the Battle for the Ballot" marks the 90th anniversary of the 19th ammendment giving women the right to vote. A New Jersey Quaker, Paul was the leader of the militant wing of the suffrage movement from 1913 to 1920. Mary Walton will offer a 45 minute presentation featuring history photos depicting the final dramatic years of the suffrage movement, a David-and-Goliath struggle that ended with the passage of the 19th Ammendment in 1920. Walton is the author of four previous works of nonfiction and was a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer for 22 years.
